Mani Rimdu Festival Trekking in Everest Region – Tengboche Monastery

Tengboche Monastery lies at the altitude of 3867m on the Khumbu Region of Everest. This monastery is the oldest monastery which was damaged by the earthquake and the fire in 1934 and 1989 and rebuilt later on. Tengboche monastery is in the main route of Everest Base Camp Trek where thousand of trekkers passed each year and stay overnight in this place. From here one can have a  panoramic view of Everest ranges including various mountains like EverestNuptseAma DablamLhosteTawache from this monastery. This monastery was built inside the Everest National Park which is also enlisted in World Heritage site.

Among another big festival of Nepal, Mani Rimdu festival is one of the biggest ceremonies in the Khumbu region. The festival is celebrated for 19 days and three days of the festival is the special one. There is a big celebration in Tengboche monastery of Khumbu region and the festival date are fixed according to Tibetan Lunar Calendar.  The date is announced by Head Lama of the Tengboche Monastery on the month of MarchApril.  It is a colourful event presents by Sherpas and monks of the Tengboche monastery wearing a colourful mask to represents deities and imaginary beings. On the last day of the festival, Rinpoche of the monastery gives a blessing to the general people and the destruction of the sand mandala to symbolize that nothing is permanent in the universe.

On this year 2018, Mani Rimdu Festival date is already announced for 2526and 27 October of 2018. A lot of people attend this festival and take blessing from head Lama of the monastery. People booked hotels and lodges in advance to watch and celebrate the festival. Details day-to-day Itinerary of Tengboche Monastery/Mani Rimdu Festival

Day 01: 19th October 2018: Arrival in Kathmandu and welcome by our airport representative from Long Walk Adventures with a name card. Transfer in Hotel and pre-discussion of the trek.

Day 02: 20 October 2018 Kathmandu Valley Sight Seeing: Kathmandu Valley is well-known for ancient temples and Royal  Palaces enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Explore the ancient Hindus and Buddhist Temple and Stupas of Kathmandu such as Swoyambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), House of Living Goddess Kumari, Royal Palace of Basantapur Square, and passes through the ancient street of Ason Tole to return back to Hotel. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 03: 21 October 2018  Take an early morning flight to Lukla and Trekking to Phakding: A scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu takes us to Lukla which normally takes 50 minutes. Lukla is an entrance point for trekkers and mountaineers that leads to various treks and peak climbing destination in the Khumbu Region. 3/4 hours of the trek and stay overnight in Phakding.

Day 04: 22nd October 2018: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar 3440m (5/6 hours of Trek) We start our trek early in the morning walking slowly till Jor Salle with the view of Mount Thamserku Dudhkoshi and Thadekoshi river. You can meet other trekkers following the same path or return from different trekking destination. At Jorsalle, we will take our lunch and move ahead and climb steeply till suspension bridge. We continue the same path up to Namche Bazaar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

Day05: 23rd October 2018: Explore Namche bazaar: Namche Bazaar is the Sherpa Capital of Khumbu Region. Before entering into Everest trek people passes a day and acclimatize themselves before moving ahead. Most of the modern facilities are available in this tiny mountain town. Hike up to Everest View Point on the day to have a fantastic view of Everest, Lhoste, Amadablam, Kongde and other peaks. Hike up to Everest Hotel and return back to Namche Bazar for an overnight stay.

Day 06 24th October 2018: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche 3860m (4/5 hours: We will start our trek early in the morning. You can able to see the fantastic mountain range and you will meet an old Sherpa who is building a road from Namche to Kyanjuma. Passing through Phungi Thanga and taking a lunch break we will be arriving in Tengboche monastery on a slow rhythm enjoying the views of mountain and forest. Enjoy the view of the sunset from Tengboche Monastery over the mountain range. Overnight in Tengboche Monastery.

Day 07 26th October 2018: Participate in Chham (Dance) by Lamas.

Day 08: Participate in Fire Puja and Mandala Destruction day.

Day 09  27th October 2018: Trekking to Khumjung village takes 5 hours. Overnight in Khumjung Village.

Day 10 28th October 2018:: Trek to Phakding. 6 hours of trek.

Day 11 29th October 2018:: Trek to Lukla. 6 hours of trek.

Day 12 30th October 2018:: Fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 13 31st October 2018:: Free Day in Kathmandu. Visit Pashupatinath temple and Bouddhanath Stupa (Buddhist Stupa and shopping day.

Day 14 1st November 2018: Our airport representative will drop you to the international airport for your final departure to other destination with a suitable memory of Mani Rimdu Festival at Tengboche Monastery of Nepal.
