Makalu Base Camp Trekking


Makalu Base Camp Trek is the visit to one of the most isolated area of Nepal Himalayas at the altitude of 5250m. Mount Makalu is fifth highest mountain of the world measuring 8463m and it is surrounded by high mountains of Everest-8850m, Lhoste-8516m, Baruntse-7129m, Chamlang-7319m &Kanchenjunga-8586m. MakaluBarun area is a national park linked between Tibet and Nepal covering the area of 2330sq km. and Nepal shares 830 square kilometer area.

Makalu Base Camp Trekking starts from Tumlingtar of eastern Nepal by taking scenic flight from Kathmandu  and then we follow the upstream of Arun river valley to the remote mountain village of Sedua and Num, Tashigaon, KogmaDanda, passing ShiptonLa, YangliKharka we then follow BarunRiver.  The trial continues furthermore to LagmaleKharka, Sherson and finally reaches to Makalu Base Camp at 4900m and passing a day in this area we explore the area up to 5200m. While retureing the trekkers traverse through YangliKharka, Dobate, KhogmaDanda, Tashigaon, Seduwa, Num, Tumlingtar and back to Kathmandu.

Trekkingin Makalu Base Camp allows you to search the remote villages, glaciers, moraines, high mountains, two mixed cultures and different ethnic groups of Nepal- people residing in Arun River Valley, and Upper Baruntse mountain valley. The duration of this trek is 21 days however people seeking for more challenges extended this trek for more days to reach towards the Everest crossing AmphuLapchaPass via PanchPokhari at 5850m which is considered as technically difficult for the normal trekkers adding more challenging days in the itinerary.


Day 1:Arrival in Nepal.

Upon arrival, pick up by our airport representative and transfer to Hotel. Welcome dinner and detailed information is provided by our team.


Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing:

Visiting some historical and ancient monuments, Royal Palaces, Stupas and temples of Kathmandu valley such as SowyambhunathStupa (Monkey Temple), KathmanduRoyalPalace and House of Living Goddess Kumari. Overnight in Hotel at Kathmandu.


Day 03:Fly to Tumlingtar (eastern Nepal) and drive to the Chirchira village(1950m)

We take a flight to Tumlingtar eastern Nepal from where the trek begins. The flight will be around 50 minutes with the beautiful views of Himalayan Landscape and from Tumlingtar 3-4 hour drive to reach Chirchira village, a small Gurung Settlement. Overnight in Lodge/Homestay.


Day 04: Trek begins from Chirchira to Num 1560m 6 hours of trek:

The first day of the trek leads us to Num after breakfast. We will follow through very beautiful landscape and forest to arrive in Num village. Overnight in Num.


Day 05: Num to Seduwa at 1500m/6 hours of trek:

A steep descent down through the beautiful forest and terraced land towards Arun River where we can register our permit in Makalu Barun National Park then we follow uphill track to reach SeduwaVillage. Overnight in Seduwa.


Day 06: Seduwa to TashiGaon (village): 2100m- 5 hours of trek:

Tashi Gaon is a beautiful Tamang and Sherpa community village surrounded by mountains and small fields. We reach there by following the uphill path and paddy fields. Overnight in Tashigaon.


Day 07: Trek from Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3,500m): 6-7 hours of trek:

The trekking trial leads us now to the higher elevation to reach KhogmaDanda. More uphill and steep route which passes through yak grazing land on the top of the ridge. Follow the small descend to reach KhogmaDanda. Overnight in KhongmaDanda (Ridge).


Day 08: Acclimatization day:

Explore the area of KhogmaDanda and rest with beautiful views of the mountains. Overnight in Khongma.


Day 09: KhogmaDanda to Dobate crossing Shipton La 4216m and Keke La 4150m-

Steep climb for the superb view of Mt. Makalu and other surrounding mountains of Chamlang (7321m), Peak 6 (6,524m) and Peak 7 (6,758m). The first pass is Tutu la at 4050m before reaching Barun River that descends to small lake of KaloPokhari we then climb to Shipton la and then the third pass is keke-la and finally we arrive to Dobate. Overnight in Dobato.


Day 10: Dobate to Yangri Kharka: 6 hours of walk 3580m:

We follow to the route of Barun River and Rhododendron Forest to reach Yangri Kharka. Be careful for first two hours as we passes through landslide area and after that there is a pleasant walk to arrive at Yangri Kharka.


Day 11: Yangri Kharka to LangmaleKharka: (4,400m):

We follow the path to LangmaleKharka following a walk through valley and yak pastureland and fir and rhododendron forest which takes us 6 hours to arrive in LangmaleKharka. Stay overnight in Langmale Kharka.


Day 12: Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp 4870m 6/7 hours of trek:

Today we will be reaching to Makalu Base Camp in 6/7 hours passing through the view of icy glacier and snow covered gigantic mountains around us. Overnight in Makalu Base Camp.


Day 13: Explore Makalu Base Camp  5250m:

Today is the day we make it to the Base Camp. From LangmaleKharka we make our way up to Shershong and eventually to Makalu Base Camp. The trail is flat with icy glaciers and snow clad mountains accompanying us. Mount Makalu comes into view as we approach Shershong. As we make our way to the camp, we get to soak in the majestic Himalayan panorama surrounding us. Overnight at Makalu Base Camp.


Day 14: Return to Yangle kharka: 3750 m of altitude

Having a wonderful memory of 5th highest mountain of the world, we now leave Makalu base camp and return to Yangle Kharka which is six to seven hours trekking route. You will pass through the Shershong, Langmale, and tea shop in Merek  Village from where our destinational of Yangle Kharka is two and half hour furthermore.Overnight in the tea house.


Day 15: Return Back to Dobato: 

After passing our overnight in the tea house we start our trek to Dobato passing through rhododendron forest and landslide area before the tea house in Themathang. We then clim steeply for sometime and the path become gradual until we reach the tea house in Dobato. Six hours of walk.


Day 16: Return back to Khongma:

We will have a good view of moutains from Shipton La, and Keke La until we arrive to Sano Pokhari Danda.

Today we will pass two passes of Keke-La and Shipton La

Day 21: Flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 22: We will be drop you to the international airport for your final departure with the beautiful memories of the great Makalu Base Camp Trek.
