Overview of the Gosainkunda Lake and Surya Peak Trek
Gosainkunda lake trek is a short trek to the scenic holy lake surrounded by other lakes and mountains. Trishuli river originates from the Gosainkunda area. This trek is a recommended for those people who want to trek at an higher altitude in a short time period.
The trek starts from Kathmandu after a scenic drive of 5 to 6 hours following Trishuli river until Dhunche where the trek begins. The trekking trail then passes through dense rhododendron and pine forest and a small Tamang village and Buddhist monasteries. Along the trek there is a magnificent view of Langtang Lirung 7234m, Dorje Lakpa 6988m , Ganesh Himal (7422m) ranges.
The sacred lake of Gosainkunda is situated at the altitude of 4380m above the sea level. This trekking is a popular pilgrimage destination for many Hindus and Buddhists to have a sacred bath. It is believed that the lake has the power of cleansing sins and healing ailments. Annually during the month of August, Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visit the lake to worship during full moon day.
