Lower Dolpo Trek

In the far western region of Nepa,l far away from modern civilization, largest district of Nepal Dolpo district lies in the rain shadow area and surrounded by many massifs peaks.  Lower Dolpo Trek is only one possible tea house trek in the Dolpo region. This trek is easy trek one can explore the largest waterfall and deepest lake in the height of 3500m. Shey Phoksundo National park and the lake itself offer the most exciting photographic view and this is the place of many wild animals such as rare snow leopard, musk deer and blue sheep.

Lower Dolpo trekking region is rich with traditional villages, people and their religions, flora and fauna. The region is opened for the foreigners for the trekking starting from 1990s. Dolpo region’s Phoksundo lake was well captured in the Oscar nominated movie (Himalaya/Carvan-1999) directed by Frenchman, Eric Valli (a famous writer of the book The Honey Hunters of Nepal). The lake is sacred lake for many Buddhist in this region and the magnificent view of Mount Kanjiroba and Mount Dhaulagiri massif always welcomes natural lovers.

Itinerary Details of 11 Days Tea House Lower Dolpo Trekking

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu: Your arrival in International Airport of Kathmandu will be welcomed by our agency representative. You will be then transferred to designated hotel.

Day 02: Explore Kathmandu: Visit World Heritage sites of Kathmandu where you can find ancient royal palace, Hindus and Buddhist Temple and Stupas and Shrines of Kathmandu, Swyambhunath Stupa, and Lalitpur area.

Day 03: Kathmandu-Nepalgunj: Take a domestic flight to Nepalgunj, a town in the mid western Terai, is very close to the Indian Border. Explore the town of Nepalgunj in the rickshaw or Horse Cart. Overnight at the Hotel in Nepalgunj.

Day 04: Nepalgunj-Juphal-Dunai 2150m: Take a flight from Nepalgunj a twin otter, 35 minutes of flight to reach Juphal. Our treks starts from Juphal in the bank of Thuli Bheri River and it takes 3 hours to reach the administrative town of Dolpo district, Dunai. Explore the little town and stay overnight in a tea house lodge of Dunai.

Day 4 Dunai- Chhepka (2670m): From Dunai we trek to Chhepka. We will enter the Shey Phoksundo National Park and its headquarters at Suligard while trekking towards Chhepka. The village of Chhepka has few houses and lodges on the surrounding of woods. We have to cross several streams and walk on the riverbed and the forest to arrive in Chhepka. Stay in the lodge at Chhepka.

Day 05 Chhepka – Jharana Hotel 3370m: After our breakfast, we continue our trial to Jharana Hotel, Jharana literally means waterfall in English and it is one of the highest Waterfall in Nepal. Today, we have to climb steadily to reach at the elevation of 3370 m. The view of Shey Phoksundo lake and waterfall is amazing from Polam. Our overnight stay will be in the lodge of Jharana Hotel.

Day 06 Jharana Hotel – Phoksundo Lake 3700m: Our trek today continues to Phoksundo Lake after crossing Rigmo Village passing through a picturesque settlement of flat-roofed stone houses with lots of Mani walls. We will arrive to lake phoksundo and stay overnight after exploration of the lake.

Day 07: Rest day at Shey Phoksundo: Today we will explore the area around the magnificent Phoksundo Lake. The lake is famous for its magnificent turquoise color and spectacular scenery and considered as the sacred lake for the Buddhist religion staying in this place. The village of Ringmo is a typical Tibetan village has a monastery known as thashung Gompa which was built on 12th century. Enjoy our natural tour in Shey Phoksundo Lake.

Day 08 Phoksundo – Sangta: Our trek continues to the village of Sangta. Stay overnight at Hotel.

Day 9 Sangta – Juphal: This is our last day trek. We will return to Juphal and stay overnight there.

Day 10 Juphal – Nepalgunj: Take flight back to Nepalgunj. Drive to Bardia National park for the exploration of flora and fauna. Overnight stay in the park,

Day 11: Explore the National park which includes various activites like Jeep or Elephant Safari or Nature walk/ Walk in the Tharu Community Village, and rafting in the biggest Karnali River.

Day 12: Drive to Nepalgunj and take a return Flight to Kathmandu. Farewell Dinner and Shopping in Kathmandu.

Day 13: Our airport representative will drop you to the International Airport. Fly back to own country.
