It is also the oldest National Park of Nepal declared in 1976 to protect its flora and fauna of this region. Langtang, word derived from the Tibetan language which means in Nepali Lang means Yak and Tang mean “to follow” and to meet the Yak one have to travel upper part of Langtang/Kyanjin Gomba or Lake Gosainkunda. These two places are popular spiritual sites for Buddhist and Hindus. The community lives in this area mostly are Tamang, Yolums, and Bhotias originated from Tibet and follows Buddhist religion. Also, a place where animals sacrifice was forbidden for decades.
Thirteen months back, Langtang-Kyanjing Gomba trek used to be third popular trekking destination for the travelers. The scenario has been completely changed when many regions of Nepal was hit by the huge earthquake of April 2015. The entire village was swept away by the avalanche and around 200 people including locals and tourists lost their lives.
After the horrible incident, Langtang now opens for the visitors. The damaged trekking trail has been repaired; some of the teahouse and lodges have been already rebuilt and continue their services. Most of the people are participating in the activities that will absolutely revive tourism in this area because tourism is one of the best ways to improve the living condition of the people.
There is not much problem to reach to the lake Gosainkunda. It is a holy lake believed to be created by Lord Shiba from his trident when he struck into the ground. Several teahouses were damaged in this area, but they have been reconstructed. Crossing Lauribina Pass 4730m one can continue their trekking trials to Helambu Region or end their trek to Chisapani/Sundarijal village.
