Kopra Ridge Trek in Annapurna Region
Kopra Ridge trek is the less visited place by the tourists but yet one of the most amazing destinations for the breathtaking view of Annapurna I, II, III, IV, South and Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhare peaks; Khpra Trek would be the best destination for the trekkers. It lies in the foothills of Annapurna region at the altitude of 3650m. The maximum altitude is a visit to sacred Khayer Lake 4500m surrounded by Hindu shrines and lake, a famous pilgrimage destination.
It is a community-based trekking which starts from Pokhara driving to Beni which is the starting point of the Kopra Community Trek. Trekkers stay mostly in the community-based homestay and lodges’ eat local food; mostly organic production and interact with villagers; know their custom, tradition, cultures, and lifestyles.
Most wonderful part of Kopra Ridge Trekking are; one can see the beautiful mountains, passed through beautiful terraced fields, rhododendron forest, and villages and yet the places is not overcrowded by the tourists like other famous Annapurna’s destination. Kopra Danda (Hill) Trek remains overshadowed for decades but the scenario is different now because of the newly opened route. Khopra Trekking later joined the
famous Poon Hill Trek from Tadapani village. It is also possible to extend the trek to Poonhill or Annapurna Base Camp for a complete adventure. Excellent view of the sunrise over the famous mountains and walk through the hills surrounded by rhododendron forest; an encounter with the yaks in the ridge, and stay with the community makes Kopra trek one of the memorable treks in the Annapurna Region.
Itinerary Details of Kopra Trekking
Day 1 &2: Arrive in Kathmandu and sight have the seen tour of Kathmandu city.
Day 03: Fly or Drive to Pokhara, take a tour of Lake City. Overnight in a Hotel.
Day 04: Leave Pokhara city and drive to Beni, Galeshowor where the trek starts. Trek to Banskharka, the Magars settlement. It is surrounded by beautiful forest and the small river and also popular for orange production. Overnight at the village of Banskharka. 4-5 hrs of trek, 1563m.
Day 05: To Nagi: Start trek after breakfast. Enjoy the view of beautiful Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range and climb uphill. Take a lunch at Dandakateri and the trail flattens when we arrive the beautiful settlement and terrace at the village of Nagi. The village is also popular for the production of Nepali handmade paper (Lokta). Enjoy locally made liquor and local food. Overnight stay at community lodge. 6 hrs of walk 2300 m.
Day 06: To Mohare Danda: After breakfast, the destination is Mohare Danda; an isolated place which has most stunning views of mountains and also there is a community lodge. Walk in a stone-paved trial to reach Mohare Danda. There is also the scarcity of water in this place. Overnight at the community lodge. 5 hours of the trek and 3350 m.
Day 07: To Swanta Danda: The destination for today is Swanta Danda for which we have to trek down through the forest and few hours uphill walk to join the village of Swanta. It provides a lovely view of Mount Dhaulagiri. After arriving Swanta, take a tour of the village and its primary school. Overnight stay in a community lodge. 5.30 hrs trek, 2300 m.
Day 08: To Kopra: Taking breakfast, trek to Chistibung to reach Kopra. There are two choices either stay in Upper Chistibung to reach Kopra or walk 3.30 hrs more after lunch in Chistibung to reach Kopra. You can choose any of the options which is suitable for you. 6.30 hrs of walking; 3650m.
Day 09: Kopra to Lake Khayer and back to Kopra: If you feel energetic then don’t miss your chance to trek to lake Khayer which is the difficult and prettiest place in this region. It offers the stunning views of Mount Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Nilgiri. Enjoy the day and make it memorable.
Day 10: To Bayelikharka: Today the path descends down through the superb rhododendron and oak forest and sometimes it is very narrow. Wonderful view of the Annapurna South. 5h of the walk, 3380 m.
Day 11: To Ghandruk: After breakfast, it descends down taking the shadowy path of the forest full of oak and rhododendron and finally joined to the traditional route of Tadapani that descends down to the Gurung Village of Ghandruk which is famous for its typical houses and the view of Annapurna South. 6.30 hours walk; 1950m.
Day 12: To Pokhara: Trek down taking the path of stone-paved stairs to the valley of Modi River that leads us to the Nayapul where the trek ends. Drive to Pokhara takes about 1 hour. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 13: Fly back/Private Vehicle/Tourist Bus to Kathmandu. 7 hrs in tourist bus; 25 minutes of flight.
Day 14: Departure day. Fly or drive back to your destination.
