Gosainkunda Lake Trekking and Lauribina Pass
Gosainkunda Lake is the most famous pilgrimage site, a holy lake for Hindus and Buddhist people. Lake Gosainkunda is situated at the Langtang National Park at an altitude of 4380m and surrounded by various peaks and 108 different small and big lakes that are scattered at a different altitude. The lake is also enlisted in a wetland site of Nepal covering the area of around 32 acres.
Gosainkunda Lake Trekking is popular among Hindus and Buddhist as it has its religious importance. It is believed that once you take a dip in this holy lake your sin will be washed away. Thousands of pilgrims visit this lake during the full moon day on the month of May and August to take a bath and to get a position of new Shaman.
This trek can be started from different places of Kathmandu but the most preferred route is from Dhunche which is 120 km away from Kathmandu. The most popular mode of transportation is jeep or local bus to the Tibet border to Kerung. It may be an adventure ride for many people covering a short distance takes 5-6 hours. Gosainkunda Lake Trekking is suitable for the people having average fitness and healthy body.
Gosainkunda lake trek passes through the Rhododendron, Pine, and Cedar Forest, Yak Pastures, Tamang Villages and habitat of the Red Pandas in the between Sing Gompa and Cholangpati. The best season to visit Gosainkunda Lake trekking is from September to December and March to May.
Gosainkunda Lake Trekking Itinerary Details
Day 01: Arrival in the Kathmandu International Airport and transfer to the Hotel by our airport representative. Dinner in a traditional Nepali Restaurant. Overnight in the Hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu-Dhunche- Thulo Syabru -2200m: Take a jeep or local bus ride from Kathmandu to Dhunche crossing the different route following Trishuli River. It takes five to six hours to arrive in Dhunche. Two hours trek to Thulo Syabru village from Dhunche.
Day 03: Thulo Syabru- Cholangpati: 3540m: 6 hours of Trek: The distance from Thulo Syabru to Cholangpati is a bit long there are two alternative ways you can either go directly to Cholangpati or you can go to Sing Gompa passing through Pine forest with a nice view of Ganesh, Manaslu, Paldorje and Langtang Himal. You will have to walk in Pine and Rhododendron and bamboo forest which is a good habitat of Red Panda. Overnight in Cholangpati.
Day 04: Cholangpati to Gosainkunda Lake: 4380m- 5 to 6 hours of the trek: This section of the route is a bit hard as we gain altitude and the route climbs steeply from Cholangpati to the Stupa near Lauribina. However, the fantastic view of the mountains and valleys reduce our low energy. From the Stupa onwards, the route moves up and down for 1.30 minutes to reach Gosainkunda Lake. We can see different lakes and Langtang river. There are two lakes situated in the Gosainkunda the holy lake itself and another lake Bhairab Kunda. Take a tour of a lake and stay overnight at the mountain lodge.
Day 05: Gosainkunda- Lauribina Pass-4700m- Ghopte 3530m: This is a challenging day. To reach, Lauibina viewpoint it takes two and a half hours. We have to cross different small lakes and other lake known as Surya Kunda. The way to Surya Peak 4950 m is also started from the way to the Pass. From the pass, there are a fantastic view of different mountain sections from Manaslu to Langtang and Kerung Peak. Pass some moments here and there is a long downhill from the pass to reach in a small human settlement of Ghopte. Overnight in a lodge at Ghopte.
Day 06: Ghopte- Kutumsang: 2470m- 6 hours of trekking: Today we again continue another pass of Tharepati and descend further down to Magengoth passing through dense forest to reach in human settlements of Kutumsang. Overnight at the lodge in Kutumsang.
Day 07: Kutumsang to Chisapani Hill 2215m- 6 hours of trekking: From Kutumsang village, we descend to Patibhanjyang and Gulbhanjyang village and finally climb to Chisapani Hill to pass our night. The sunrise and sunset from this place are mesmerizing. Overnight in Chisapani Village.
Day 08: Chisapani to Sundarijal and back to Kathmandu: 4 hours of trekking and 45 minutes of Jeep Ride: We descend down furthermore from Chisapani village towards Shibapuri National passing small villages. It takes us four hours to arrive in Sundarijal where there is small ancient hydropower. From Sundarijal, we take a vehicle to come back to Kathmandu that takes 45 minutes.
Day 09: Free Day in Kathmandu. Visit Bhaktapur, Patan, and Swyambhunath.
Day 10: Departure to your country or other destination. Our airport representative again drops you to the international airport.
